I have this algea in my tank that looks kinda like thick grass. I think its hair algea. When it grows in the sand it comes out in complete chunks. My LFS told me to increase my alk and the hard water will eventually make it stop growing and then kill it. Anyone know if this will have negative effects on the rest of my tank ?

1 turbo snail cleaned my 20g in about 2 days and i had bad hair algea and the stuf in ur sand u can just pick out with ur hand. u might need more current so that alea can not attach itself and than will can not grow

Alk kept at the higher end of the acceptable range of 7-11 dKH will make it more difficult for algae to grow, but you will fight an uphill battle until you determine the source of the high nutrient level in your tank. If you post all of your water params and tank information, people will be able to help you identify the cause.
