Hairy Purple Stuff

I have some purple hairy stuff on my rocks and on my sand. Can someone please explain what it might be and how to get rid of it. Thanks

i would guess it to be red slime algae. you can get rid of the stuff by adding chem-marine stop red slime algae sold at your favorite lfs' or you can do some water changes and see if that helps...
