haitin pink tip anemone

Condylactis species

Condylactis species

C. gigantea
C. passiflora

Don't do it.
These are tropical Atlantic anemones. Heavy stingers.
If you want a host anemone for Clownfish you should research tropical Pacific anemones.
There's an anemone FAQ on RC at the top of the Anemones & Clownfish Forum. It has REALLY GREAT info and it's FREE!

okay thanks just kinda wanted one wasnt sure if it was safe enough for softies and schrooms i really like todds torch but after my last torch didnt make it i dont think im going to try again

you gotta try again

you gotta try again

that's what reefkeeping is all about :)

in the meantime research anemones

and perhaps allelopathy... which is probably going to be your main concern with any stony coral you attempt in a softie aquarium ;)

I had a couple pink condy's for several years. I got them because I wanted an anemone and was told they would do ok without MH lighting. The one actually got to be quite large. Then I finally got MH lights and about 6 months later a GBTA. Then all of a sudden my one of my condy's died. At the same time my GBTA split and shortly after split again. Apparently the two anemone didn't get along to well in the same tank. The GBTA eventually won out and killed all 3 condy anemone.

The condy anemone was kind of cool but I would never get one again. As Gary said they do have a powerful sting. I lost several softies to them. I also lost a couple LPS and SPS but that was probably due to inexperience and lack of MH lighting (I only had PCs).

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

due to physical (anemone) warfare called 'nettling'. Anemones can shed nematocysts to wage war on neighbors.

Interesting! Thanks for the info.

One thing to note that the same species seem to do just fine together. My RBTA and GBTA got along just fine until one day the RBTA wandered into a powerhead.

I wouldn't say any are totally safe. Pretty much any anemone will win a war with coral. You can always move things around as the BTA is settling in and moving around. They can walk around the tank, and sting things while they are doing it. Usually they find a spot and get happy. Once they do that, they should stay put unless something else changes (flow, lighting, etc).

Some frogspawns can have pretty long tentacles. They're not as thin and long as torch corals though.

Would a long tentacle anemone be OK in your tank? They are a little more difficult than a BTA, but they generally stay in one spot more, are sand dwellers, and can still host clownfish. It may be something worth looking into if you are concerned about the corals on your rock.

im kinda new to coral like within the last year but there all shrooms softies and one peice of sps i think i have to get a picture of it couse i dont know what it is. i say sps couse i seen something on live aquaria that looked like it so im not sure lol

It's definitely a good practice to know what you add to your tank. Do research before buying and adding. It will save you tons of $!
