I was told by a lfs that I could add Halimeda to my display to help with nitrate reduction after reading posts here it seems as though I didn't receive completely acurate information as Halimeda dosn't do well with nitrates above 9 or 10ppm. Well it has bleached and now my tank has a slight green color to the water and an oily film on top with green foam in the top corners. My skimmer went crazy and after removing the Halimeda reducing bubble production and emptying 3 very wet cups of skimmate it seems to have settled down slightly and is now begining to skim properly again. My questions are as follows What effects is this having on my nutrient level? Will the skimmer be able to remove the impurities from the water or should I do an imediate 20% water change? What is the best choice for a nitrate reducing macro (read bullet proof) as I like the look of macro in the tank and don't have a sump so anything that will help with nutrient up take will be benificial.
