Halimeda turning white

I got a clump of Halimeda about 4 months ago for my 'fuge. Besides the fact that it has not grown at all, it has also turned white in some spots. I have read that it needs calcium to grow and my levels have been 400+ the whole time. Any ideas?

Does it look like this:

I think this is the calcium carbonate skellet of dead tallus, but I'm not sure (I'm newbie to algae ;)). In my case it appears after I prune the algae, so it is probably just a response to mechanical destruction of the tallus!?

My 'fuge was lit by an Eclipse 3 hood, but in the last week I changed to one of those Flourex bulbs. I'm hoping the extra light helps.

My specs are
No3= 0
Po4= 0 (probably bound in the hair algea growing on my back glass)
Alk= 8.4 DkH
Mg= dont test for it yet

Heres a pic of it.

Is this happening during the day? My Halimeda turns white when the lights have been off for a while and I was told that doing so is normal.

The chloroplasts in Halimeda migrate deeper into the tissue when the lights are out. So it's perfectly normal for it to look white in the mornings.

Here's my article from a couple years ago with more than you ever wanted to know about Halimeda.

Kirby's Halimeda Article

btw - Kirby is a friend of mine that likes to refer to himself in the third person from time to time.

Halameida in my experience requires high light. Mine turn white under lower light, but perk up under the halides.
