Hammer Coral Rescue Mission!!

I passed by my local fish store today and they offered me a $5 hammer coral which dying ! Can I make it work ! HELP !!

Im going through the samething with my wall frogspawn...its in rough shape like your hammer; its not as big,but looking bad like yours

I would use my bandsaw (carefully) and trim the dead away and maybe 1/8" of living tissue off to attempt to remove the disease. I would also dip with Coral Rx and target feed. Definitely a tedious process but worth it for a wall hammer.

My girlfriend picked up a hammer coral frag (the tiniest frag I have ever seen) and kept it for a day thinking she could surprise me with it. She did, but I asked her when she got it and I cringed. I immediatly drove it to my house and let it settle on the lowest part of the tank on top of a rock. Half of its skeleton was showing and it didnt look too happy. Rods food and ocean nutrition flakes are fed daily and it really perked up. It healed and the side that showed no life fully healed! I moved it up and recently glued it to my rockwork, and its fully open and fully extended! I think hammers can take a beating and are pretty hardy from my experience.

I was considering taking the advice of cutting some skeleton off, maybe that will help ? I have a band saw or dremel

What are your Calcium Levels? "its breaking apart" confuses me. Also what is lighting like?

Look at the cut line in that skeleton. Assuming your referring to the upper right where it was cut. This is why we need to push for better importing methods. If they are that big, and no one wants to buy unless a smaller specimen, LEAVE IT IN THE SEA!
