Im still haveing problems with my hammer.... still necrosing... and today I took it out of the tank and put it in a separte container and fragged off the dead nasty tissue, dipped and swished it about and dipped it in pure Nutrasea Reef Additive... which contains Ca, Sr, Md, and Iodine... to help it for about 10-20 seconds and then dipped it in pure water... RODI that I buffed up to 8.4 for about 10-20 seconds to kill of that nasty stuff... or at least try..

and then put it back into the tank..

Im hopeing this will do it..

what else can I do to keep this hammer..

so upset about this.. BTW: the torch is doing better...

if it keeps up get some lugols and do a 15 minute dip. unfortunately lugols doesnt seem to be as effective on euphyllia but its something to try that could turn things around.

I disagree,Lugols is the only dip i woud use for treating brown jelly/necrotic tissue condition.If it is brown jelly,its very resilient and hard to kill.If you have a dental/water pik,they work great for blasting off the dead/necrotic tissue.It is VERY important that this tissue is removed.I used a direct Lugols application(no dip) for approx 2 mins and i was able to stop the necrosis.The first time,I only did it for like 30 sec and the brown jelly returned(I didn't use the water pik though and wasn't able to remove all the necrotic tissue so i think that is why it returned)As soon as the coral starts expanding again,I would try to feed it fine particulate food.If it wont accept it,rinse the food off as it will probably help to feed the pathogens that might be causeing this.

Today looks good from what I can tell.... The fragged peice is not necrosing from what I can see, and the main colony is expanding this morning which is a good sign...

Im hopeing the FW killed off the BJ...


Anyone else used FW dips on corals to kill pathogens?

Yes,I have used FW dips before.I had a flatworm infestation on a frogspawn.I used a FW dip to remove them,The coral handled the dip well.

How long was the dip... how did you prepare the freshwater???

The dip was approx 1 min,I shaked the coral vigourously in the freshwater to make sure the FW's were gone.The water was RO/DI with PH/buffer added to bring it to a PH of 8.3

about the same as me... except I did not dip as long... only 10 seconds on the small peice and 20 seconds on the larger..

but yes I did shake and sway...
