I picked up this yellow hammer and ever since my blenny seems to like it. Is it possible the hammer could host? Usually when anything touches my hammers they close up. No the case here.
Its not a scooter blenny but its a lawnmower blenny and I have one that sits on all my corals and just about everything in my tank its broken frags landing too fast on them sometimes it drives most of my corals crazy when it sits on them but they r getting used too it .
My first thought is that's not a scooter blenny. Looks more like a starry to me. A scooter blenny is technically a dragonet. The starry we had would hop all around the tank like yours above. I don't think they "host" in anything like a clownfish would.
EDIT: agree with bills. Looks more like a lawnmower than a starry.
That is a lawnmower blenny. and it appears to be sitting on the skeleton of the coral, not the polyp, if it was on the polyp, the hammer would be mad and closed up.
Lawnmower blennies do not use a host. It probably likes that particular spot for it's view of it's domain. Blennies do often find their favorite perches throughout a tank.
Well guess its good to know that its a lawnmower... Was labled wrong at the store then... As for it sitting on the skeleton. Its sitting right on top of a smaller head behind the big one in that pic. It gets right in the tissue. Even waves its fins around in it. I guess it doesnt host but sure does tolerate him. This is the first coral he has show. Any interest in.
