Hang On Back Refugiums

Anyone have any recommendations for a HOB refugium. I have a 45 gallon tank with a Magnum 350 canister filter and a HOB CPR Bak Pak 2 Protein Skimmer.

There are some CPR refugiums with built in protein skimmer in case you need space, some people use Miracle Mud or something similar, others go for a mini DSB with chaeto

Yeah I am sure not all sumps have to be so super sized.

A HANG ON BACK refugium would be a neato soloution but I have never seen one.

I think if you did not mind the extra work then certian changes would need to be made to make it worth your time invested.

If I was me I would move the skimmer to one end and the filtration unit to the opposite side.

Then create a hang on refugium that spans the entire back then drips back in on the other side.

You could do that I guess by purchasing several of those fish birthing chambers or create a custom made one.

A closed loop refugium! sweet!

I had one of the Odyssea refugiums, but it was too large for my 10 gallon tank. It was decent, I used it a few nights and then sold it (because of the size). The local guy who's using it has thanked me a couple of times, so I know it's working well. :)

I had an odyssea too, great and cheap, did replaced the pump for an MJ 1200 but had to use some vinyl tubing to fit it inside the black tube but worked great, now it's stored

here are some pics of a HOB fuge, it was an old Truvu HOB wet dry, removed bio balls, added couple baffles and LS, rubble, return is by a 100 GPH small power head with flow valve
Note the last image shows the power head in the area for rubble, second is the mini DSB 5" and the small section has the return pump.
One of the images shows the HOB fuge already installed.
