Hang on Skimmers

D french your argument is like swiss cheese, Full of holes.

many people run skimmerless tanks, that is not the point of the thread......

The ATB is going to be priced with all the rest of the competition Remoras and prizms are not good skimmers, the pumps you are using are inneficent , add tons of heat, and cost much more $ to run,

My deltec runs 7W and would smoke your remora pro.

cool glad your deltec is awesome, they are nice skimmers, i don't care who's skimmer is awesome i was just stating if i had a heavy stocked tank i would buy deltec or octopus skimmer something alot better than a remora but i don't have a heavy stocked tank.

Its funny how most people have no idea that there are 800 dollar Bubble kings...

WaterssretaW Wait for the ATB or go for the deltec MCE 600

For a 150?

Here's quotes from Premium Aquatics:
Mini Bubble King 160
Base plate : 7.1" x 7.1"
For tanks from 50 - 135 gallons $879

Mini Bubble King 180
Base plate : 8.25" x 8.25"
For tanks from 100 - 200 gallons
800 L/H air - 396 GPH Water
Total height : 21.65" 28 Watt/h $999

Mini Bubble King 200
Base plate : 9.06" x 9.06"
For tanks from 135 - 265 gallons
1000 L/H air - 528 GPH Water
Total height : 21.65" 38 Watt/h $1129

Bubble King DeLuxe 200 internal

For tanks from 185 - 400 gallons
1000 L/H air - 528 GPH Water
Total height : 25.69" 40 Watt/h $1699

Decide for yourself

For a 150 if your dead set on a tunze i'd suggest the 9020. The 9010 may be a bit small for that large a system.

BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST, NON-HOB for a 150g?

'Best' is a mixed bag... you can have a skimmer that is too good, IME, and strip the tank of all its nutrients... leaving you with that pastel look.

IMO, a custom 5' tall, 6" diameter skimmer with a bubble plate and about 800lph of air and a cone shape reducer would be the 'best' for a 150g. This skimmer could strip too much out though. I think its possible that a skimmer that is too effective can undermine the ultimate goal here: pretty corals.

That being said, perhaps the best isnt really the best...

My ranking of 'best' for a 150g would be something like...
1. ATB Nano/Small (sorry, Ill pick them over a BK even)
2. BK deluxe 200
4. Those new 'extreme' octos with the Sicce pumps, considering the price, these are most likely my top pick. They are the design of the BK deluxes, but for much less. http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_48&osCsid=tmip92r2s0nlds8hm9vln649b3
Ill stop there. I think you would be a fool to look at many others considering the low cost of the last one. Those are the same pumps that Tunze uses after all, but why pay for one? Will the ATB outperform it, most likely, IME/IMO due to the cone shape, but other than that and the BK deluxe (if you want the real deal), those skimmers are hard to pass on.

Decide for yourself

a mini 160 would outperform any HOB, and i wasn't saying the 800 dollar BK was going to work in this app but you had mentioned a few thousand dollars.. But for mini 160 money you can have the reeflo 200 sure its external but bang for buck it can not be beat.

I agree Luke. The Tenecor is acyrlic so could be drilled.

FYI -- not ranking on BK here, just saying, the rest of the bubble king line, if price is no object:

Good stuff we are a bit off topic here, but question for you Hahn,
you do not pick a beckett or recirculating in the same category?
e.g. Euroreef RC250, PM Bullet XL2?
(I'm working on a tank plan for a 180-215 display)

Thats the one i would recommend Waterssreta, it is the only one i know people are using are 100g plus tank.

But if i were you i would wait till january and see what ATB has to offer.

No one mention new Fisson Power skimmer

No one mention new Fisson Power skimmer

Anyone had chance to use or review Current USA new protein skimmer, the Fisson Power Skimmer? Two model the bigger one is rated for up to 220 and uses needle impeller.

I am looking for HOB skimmer, but Deltec is too expensive and I am worry about using the Aqua Medic T1000 Multi HOB.

scunfcu, its been out for quite a while but they still insist its new. Of the very few people i've heard use it, they were extremely disapointed but there s always room for a new tester.

wow you could really drive yourself crazy looking for the perfect skimmer for ones own individual set-up.

My set-up stinks because no one told me a Tenecor Simplicity sucks for going Reef.

Now I have to find the best way to use the "proper" skimmer for this tank.

how about this one:

http://www.deltecusa.us/proteinskimmers/mce600.php

From their website: "It is easy to maintain and is ideal for freshwater or saltwater fish tanks; it is not intended for use in a reef aquarium. "

Is there water in it yet? Looks like there is room for a small internal skimmer, from the drawing? Perhaps you could call tenecor. Some kind of DIY solution may be the best thing, if you're up for that.

I am still looking for HOB for my 75 gallon is debating between Aqua Medic T1000 Multi SL vs Fisson Power Skimmer ( Not Nano ).

Ill take a good bubble plate over recirc, thats the catch. The BK200 can be had in external/recirc. Otherwise, a counter current one would be nice, but a true counter current, and one that doesnt have the water inlet disrupt the bubbles on the way up, is impossible to find... so custom.

cwshoon, can you give us your review of Red Sea Berlin X2?

- Easy tunning?
- Overflow of skimate chance of flooding onto the floor?
- Easy to take out collection cup
- Can it fit on tank rims that is 2 inches ( Eurobrace)? I have Eurobrace.
- Peformance?

Thanks.
