Hi Hanna calcium people. I just got my checker in yesterday and was wondering if you guy have any tips for using it.

RODI or distilled. If you use tap water, any calcium or impurities in the water will effect the results.
No tip or tricks, just follow the directions.

Ok. I just did my first test and it came out 485. My red sea is at 420. I am not sure what kit to trust?!

You will never know unless you test your tests with a standard solution. And even then you will not know if that standard solution was correct the tests will help you to keep the concentration in the right area and then keep it constant.

What standard solution do you mean? Can you explain this a bit more?

Do yourself a favor and call Hanna.. Ask them for a 0.5ml syringe and some Hanna water..

I just recieved a syringe, and until this point, I had never had stable results.. And that's even with the Hanna water.. But this syringe make the kit actually useful! They should include them in the kit imho!

What standard solution do you mean? Can you explain this a bit more?

In your LFS, you can buy a solution with a set concentration of certain elements or. Molecules. You then use that solution with your test of choice and check how far off it is. Very important for refractometer, but I always use it on my calcium and alk tests as well.
