Hardiest Dwarf Angel?

What do you think is the hardiest dwarf angel? I really want one, but I just lost a bicolor and am looking for something that handles tank life just a bit better

Any idea what caused the demise of it? I've only owned flame and half black. My Half Black seems to be pretty hardy he survived 60 degree water during Sandy.

I've owned a C. Heraldi (nice yellow color) and currently have a C. Deborah. Both seem to be quite hardy and neither bothered corals. HTH.

Are you quarantining before adding the fish? Putting the fish through QT even if just to adjust him to aquarium life making sure hes fat and eating well before thrusting him into the competitive DT can make quite the difference. And you would be able to treat the fish if you noticed any parasites which could have been the demise of the previous fish.

I would say that most species are pretty hardy assuming you get a fat one that is actively feeding. If it isn't feeding then you are in for a hard time. If you look at the common species, coral beauty, rusty, eibli, flame etc you'll see they are common for a reason.

the only dwarfs i have ever been able to keep long term were my current potters and my old cherub. all the others lasted a couple of months. never understood why i had such a problem keeping them, they all seemed so healthy, all eating, nothing bothering them. but after trying 1 bicolor, 1 flame and 1 coral beauty i gave up on them until i got a free cherub.he did fine until i sold the tank.

I do quarantine first. the bicolor died in quarantine in great water params. Ive been researching this topic for several days now and started a different thread on it as well. It seems like the overall opinion seems to be that bicolors seem to be really hit or miss and dont adapt well to aquariums. I did get some info on collection and such so check out the thread i you want. its titled keeping a bicolor angel alive

A robust Flame or Eibli would be my pick for hardiest dwarf angels. I had a bi-color that was tough as nails as well. I think collection and stress in transport is a big factor with all three though.

My favorite would be a Joculator. Expensive, but hardy and gorgeous.

Do you have live rock in your QT tank for the fish to graze on? Some of the people I see keeping more difficult fish have LR in the QT tank for the fish to graze on as they get acclimated to captivity. With the grazing nature of angels, I'd suggest it and keep it as QT only rocks.

Yes, I knew they were grazers and might now eat right away so I made sure of that. He was picking at the rocks, just wouldnt eat what I gave him. Seemed fine, then died

if u have a big enough tank with enough rocks, dwarf angels could pick on it all day and not starve.

I lost 2 Bi colour angels . Both from different stores. Neither seemed to eat regularly. I think they are beautiful fish. Bought a flame this time. He is bulletproof so far.

bicolors can be quite sensitive...lame angels are beautiful, active, and, very hardy...not sure of your tank size but if big enough get a male and female...great to watch them together...
did you qt the bicolor with copper? they, any many centropyge angels, don't always handle it well...need to ramp up the dosage very slowly...good luck!

My vote is for a flame angel. They can handle copper well as long as you bring up the dose slowly. I would not prophylactically treat them with copper, only if they need to to battle crypto and/or velvet. They are beautiful fish and eat prepared foods well.

lol...yeah, that would be Flame angel...

go for flame or coral beauty...
forget about potters, lemonpeel, bicolor, and multifaciatus...odds are against you!

I was 5 out 5 for lemonpeels from LA. QT them thru 3 weeks of copper without issue too all in a 33g tank. I had them in my 180g and they got real aggressive and killed one.

I had to separate and keep only 2 in my 180g and 2 in my 72g.
