Harlequin Shrimp question

Hello everyone, I haved an Harlequin Shrimp in the past and I want to have another pair again. My question is: can I have the Red (pink) with the Blue specie, or I need both to be of the same color?

Elegans can range from blue and pink. Picta can only be pink and the hawaiian variety (also picta) usually is always the same color with tints of orange and yellow with dark purple spots.

Elegans and Elegans=pair
Picta and Picta=pair
Picta and Elegans=no pair

It is best to purchase your harlequins as a pair as species id can be hard sometimes due to the color variety.

good info thanks. Also I read somewhere that the Fromias are safe from the Harleys, did you know if its true?

Several online sources claim fromia is in their diet.. but IME I never successful got them to show interest in any fromia sp (red tile, red fromia).

Only thing is I feed frozen so I cannot say for sure about live.. You can try it, it's pretty easy to save prey off of the harlys.. but they won't be too happy :D

I won't, just asking because I have a Fromia milleporella, but I like that guy and don't want to been sacrificed. Well, I have 3 reefs then housing won't be a problem. Just looking for the 'elegans' specie now, with a blue spot and a pink spotted pair. I just saw a picture in google and I like it. Also call some online stores but nobody have it yet. I think I will have to wait for a bit. Thanks for your help
