My buddy has a harlequin shrimp he feeds it a chocolate chip star fish once a month. He said it was cool to watch. There cool shrimp. I bet keeping a couple in your sump would work.
My harlequin are in a 12 gallon cube and do just fine. I have heard concerns about water quality but it has never been an issue with me. Then again I keep up on the water changes
I keep a pair in a one gallon tank with nothing but an airstone, a little sand, and one small rock. They can go a few weeks without eating. I might be concerned about a pistol shrimp as it may "fire" off at the harlequins and could kill them.
I would be speculating of course, but in an enclosed space, the odds of the shrimp running into each other eventualy is bound to happen. Might be the next day, might be the next year.
