Harlequin Tusk as 1st fish?

I have the opportunity of purchasing a Harlequin Tusk (Australian) from a mate who has recently rescaped his tank & has decided he's not putting his Tusk back.
He's about 3" in size & is really fat and healthy & will look splendid in my 6ftx3ftx2ft6 tank.
Although it's a beautiful fish, I'm just a little concerned he'll be a nuisance by putting him in 1st as I've read they can be quite territorial. He's only about 2/3 yrs old & my mate had him from little.
Is this a bargain that'll turn out an expensive mistake?

Well, I think this will depend on you, and what you plan to keep later down the track. If you really, really like it, I don't see why not? In the future you just gotta stock with aggressive predators that can coexist with your Harley.

HT's are great fish. They are very active and generally leave their tank mates alone. You should know that they will eat most crabs and shrimp, and some snails. They will also eat clams, but do leave corals (soft and hard) alone.

You should be fine, considering the above. Mine left all smaller fish alone, and bigger fish ignored him.

Due to size of tank I dont see any problems with him as long as he wasnt aggressive in your mates tank they are usally fairly melo fish.

He's quite calm I believe & I know it means no shrimps or tiny critters, but does it also mean no crabs full stop - ie. red legged crabs or a clean up crew?
If so I'll have to think real hard which way to go.

Mine would eat my hermit crabs. His mode of operation was to hover over the crab until it peaked out of its shell, then attack. Quite fun to watch, but ultimately deadly for the crab.

I had one and they are an awesome fish, but I couldn't keep any clean up crew at all. That got pretty old. I was able to keep a longspined urchin with him, but no snails or crabs so I had to be very careful with my food inputs to not have a mess of algae in the tank.
