Has anyone seen the TINY black clowns at AC?

I should say clown- because one was eaten.
Anyway- I am wanting to find one or a pair. They are full grown but very very tiny, Id say a little more than an inch. And they are all black w/ three white stripes, no orange on them at all. Does anyone know what kind they could be?

either percs or occellaris. As they grow, they may develop some orange on them. Or was it the other way around? Adults loose some orange? eh, either way they look cool. I've wanted them everytime I see em in stock there.

Do they look like these clowns ?

They are ORA black ocellaris.

Paul.

Hi Dezi, were you told they were fully grown and were tiny? These get as large as any other clown, plus they are readily available. Steve (wetpets) has them on an order list you can order from.

They are bred by ORA.

Those would be A. ocellaris with the Black Variant. Typically they are commonly called Black & White Clownfish. As Paul W mentioned, they are ORA bred, but there are other people that breed them as well. I got my pair from a member here on Reef Central. When you buy a juvenile, their face will still be orange, but as they grow into adulthood, they will eventually become all black.

If you are looking for the all-black clownfish, make sure to avoid "Onyx". These are actually A. percula and often retain the orange face and orange margins at the base of the fins. They are commonly referred to as Onyx Percs, Onyx Perculas, or Onyx Clownfish.

Here is a thread that I compiled a short list of pictures of commonly available black clownfish along with some other color variants: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=867388

It is pretty tough to confuse a black morph ORA ocellaris with a onyx perc if you look at the price. Onxy percs generally sell for around $150 a piece. The black ocellaris usually go for 20% of that price.

onyx percs are not 150 i got mine from the number one onyx breeder for 50
and no onyx and ORA black occelaris are not the same nor do they look the same

Wow! I'm not sure where you shop, Tim. I got my my A. ocellaris at $30-$50 each (I can't remember), and I see the Onyx Percs for about that price as well. I'll have to keep a better eye out. After getting my A. ocellaris, I don't often pay attention to other clowns. I'll keep my eye out and post here.

Here are two sites with pictures of onyx percs:

Of course, there really is no fundamental differences between perculas and these are just color morphs. The onyx usually come from Australia. I did find one site that says they are selling TR onyx for only $50 though, which is probably your breeder. That fish doesn't look any different to most perculas I've seen, whereas the onyx being sold for much higher prices have much, much more black to them, with the black continuing all the way through to the tail band.

I also thought that onyx's have no solid orange stripes, at all, from top to bottom of the body.

here is a pic of mine three months ago it has grown since then also gotten more black
you can see the size compared to my tiny yellow goby
