I have a chromis whos lately within the past month become very aggresive, it turns out hes reached sexual maturity and is ready to be a dad.. Hes been guarding an overflow box lately and just today noticed him "dancing" around with a few of the females around the box and noticed white spots all over it. Bingo! i googled it up and found out they were eggs. does anyone on here have any experience hatching green chromis eggs? if so let me know everything u know. i plan to hatch these little guys out. i have 14 green chromis and the dominant male rotates mating with about 5 or 6 of the females so as u can tell, im gonna have alot of fry if i can get this thing going.

wish i could give you an answer, but i can't. however i will say that is awesome!! many people believe keeping saltwater is unethical...but we have to start somewhere! and it makes me happy we keep the list of captive bred saltwater fish growing!!! please continue and put a good effort into raising those fry. who knows you could be the first! good luck

the fry hatched a few days ago. right away i noticed a bunch of microscopic clear tadpole looking things in the small rubbermaid container i put them in. little by little i noticed less and less. there are only a few left now. i doubted they would even hatch, and now im doubting they will get past this stage though. its okay i wasnt expecting them to even hatch i wasnt prepared. what i will do for the next batch though is be ready. ill have a 10gal. set up with an airstone, heater, and a diy chiller. also ill have live rotifiers on hand to feed them. ive been feeding them phytoplex i dont even know if they would eat it but its worth a try. im surpised they made it this far, the room their kept in is pretty hot has no ac and the water their in is stagnant. i dont expect these to live but thats okay. next time ill b ready.

I'm not sure what they eat as a first food but rotifers are a good place to start. You may have to get the smaller S strain rotifers depending on how big the larvae are. I know they sell for like $5-$10 at the store, so it my not be economical. Just keep that in mind.

Hey! I just got some green chromis eggs off my glass! Have had my group of 5 for 6yrs.!! Since they don't cost much I have never bothered with them. Now I have been raising baby clown fish and have plenty of rotifers. Let me know if you learn any good tips! Good luck.
