Have any problem with flame angels?

So I don't have the best polyp ext in my tank during the day. Have been scratching my head trying to figure out why. Never saw any fish bother the SPS, don't have any crabs in the tank, no bugs, no flat worms.

So yesterday I went to the Philly frag swap and among with corals I brought home was a big bushy rose mille I got from Dr Jim. So the frags are sitting on the sadbed and I'm admiring the gorgeous pearberry I just picked up and all of a sudden the flame angel come over and nips at the mille a few times and my new roscoe's frag.

Haven't seen him go after other SPS but could this guy be the culprit???

Yes. I had same problem with a flame angle. RARELY saw it nipping, but poor PE until I got it out of my tank. Then PE-galore.

Watch out for those yellow clown gobies, too. I bought one because my son fell in love with it at the LFS. Put it in my DT without reading up on them and same thing happened. Took me a long time to catch him.

No more fish impulse buys for me.

Same for me put one in with hopes of no problems then a few days later lost PE after he was removed everything was back to normal.

same issue with my flame angel. I pulled all acros out when I got a frag that looked like it had AEFW. Once in the QT all acros opened up like I've never seen.

I had a flame angel in with my sps for the first 4 or 5 months of keeping sps... i swore it wasnt him, as i NEVER saw him nip and i spend a TON of time with my system... came here, asked for advice, insisted it wasnt the angel based on my personal viewings and whatnot, and pretty much argued it couldnt be him... 2 more weeks passed, decided, what the heck ill take him out as at the time i had a small fowlr as well which i dont have now... sure as heck, within a week or two, polyp extension was greater than ever and improving daily... I am now sure he was the reason... sure they were surviving with him in there, but not thriving... and unable to extend in daylight hours... no more angels for me...

Its probably the cause as stated. Flames are hit or miss. Mine nipped at my green ponci and a few others when I first introduced them but now the PE is great.

I have a flame, lemon peel and regal in my all SPS tank. The flame is a nipper, but he is very hyper and just shoots around the tank, taking a little peck here and there. Doesn't hurt the coral, most likely just looking for a little slime. The lemon peel is better, and the regal is a model citizen who never goes near any SPS. I have little to no PE, but that is the price you pay for these extremely beautiful fish.

So I finally caught the little bastard..lol

How long did it take before you guys saw increased PE?

+1+1...same thing with me. I never saw my flame nipping and would act like the model citizen when I was watching, until one time I was watching my tank from a distance and saw her going to town on one of my digitata's.:furious: As soon as I came into view she would stop nipping and just swim like an "angel". I swear she knew what was going on.

Flame "angel" nothing..there's a reason they are RED !!
