Have you got some frags from me???

I have discovered I have red bugs and they seem to be affecting my LPS as well, my frogspawn. I know they shouldn't be on my LPS but they are without a doubt. They look red on my SPS and white on my LPS. I know I have fragged a bunch of frogspawn for different folks over the past 6 months so look at it real close as well as any other corals. They are very tiny and remind me of a mite. Just thought I should post and give people a heads up and say I am sorry if I inadvertenly gave them to you!! :( I haven't added anything new since the frag swap but I guess they take a while to get in plauge proportions so just keep checking and maybe a magnifying glass would help you see them better.

ALos I have a vet freind I am gonna have call me in a prescription to an online store if anyone wants me to get them some pills for future dipps to have on hand... Anyone know the cheapest place?

Well that sucks....but IMO is inevitable if any number of corals have ever been introduced without QT (which I know you now do religiously Angela). Sounds like a full tank treatment is the easiest safest way to treat everything at this point. If you need any help LMK.

Well, Talk about iceing on the bummer cake, my local vet who I gave tons of $$ to when I had a house full of pets wouldn't sell me any interceptor :mad2: I didn't get to talk to her but the receptionist took my internet literature back to her and was gone awhile only to bring it back with a no. Wouldn't even let me state my case and was kinda rude saying she didn't want to "risk" her licence. I tried to explain I was fully aware of the stated risks and wouldn't hold the vet accountable for a tank crash but she was very addiment it was going to get me nowhere so I just left. There was nobody there in prime appointment times so I guess they have run off a lot of buisness in the last year..... This is the only vet in our city of like 12,000 so you would think it would be very, very buisy. I am getting 2 kittens in a few weeks from a freind and guess who is not going to get my buisness. I always felt the front desk was kinda rude anyways..

So this is a problem for aquariest, a vet. I even mentioned how was I suppose to get medical treatment for fish/corals and got a snide, "well, I just don't know". I have a freind who can send me some pills but that will take days to get here and getting it from a online store is still the same problem, days to start the treatment. I guess I have had them this long another few days will not kill them. I am just so mad the vet wouldn't even come tell me no or discuss the problem herself and sent the receptionist so I couldn't state my case further. She wasn't in surgury either, I saw her walking around the back room chatting. Sorry for the rant!

Angela, I can probably get Autumn to run by Williamson County Animal Hospital to pick up some. She worked there for 3 years as a Vet Tech. I will check with her when I get home or if you still have her number she might answer her phone. I am not sure but, we may still have some at home.

I don't have her # anymore. Yea, check for me if you can. I hate to wait a few days then the weekend comes into play as far as mail goes. Thanks.

The frogs i've gotten from you all seem to be fine angela. I've noticed nothing at all wrong with them. Did this happen after i was over there?

I got a frogspawn (green w/purple tip) for my brother when I got that yellow tang from you. It seems to be doin' fine. It's growin' and he hasn't noticed any bugs on it.

To be honest I have no clue how long they have been in there sucking the life from my corals. I have a strong suspition it was from a real dirt ball cheap frag I picked up last min at the swap from someone I didn't know so that was probably when I got them. My symptoms are pulling away from the base and not fully expanding is what got me looking real close. Just keep an eye on anything that came from me just to be safe. I hate to spread red bug panic since so many have gotten fraggs from me over the past 6 months since January. If you look real close they can be seen pretty easy if you are looking for them and they are kinda close to the glass.

Good news is my freind in East TN is dropping me a 6 pack in the mail today and cheaper than any online site I looked at. They never put a big markup on there meds so if anyone needs me to get them some pills to keep on hand I can. I will be going the middle of May. His price is $33 for a 6 pack.

Daniel your frogspawn came from directly beside the affected colony, touching it so you may want to look real hard but you got that way before the swap didn't you? And Steve your frag came from the compleat other side of the tank, nowhere near the affected ones but you never know so just keep a eye on your stuff. Sorry guys, would never have fragged anything if I had a clue :(

even if my brothers frog is infected, no hard feelings here. Sometimes you never know these things. I hope you get yours fixed.

Steve

What do they look like? I think that is what killed my tank:D (my last reply mentions how we don't like to accept blame, so i'll opass it off to you, Angela:D). Here are some pics of RB's. They are tiny. I can spot them with a naked eye only if the infected colony is close to the glass, or if I stare for so long, my eyes start to cross;). Once you've seen them and understand the scale of the critter, they are easier to spot.

Yeah, i got that piece from you quite awhile before the swap. It didn't look all that good in Jenn's cube at first (no expansion whatsoever), but since it's been in the 75 it hasn't looked back. Looks real good....even tolerates that giant D. Setosum i got from gary crawlin' all over it.

Sounds like interceptor should be one of those things that the club should invest in for cases like this where we need it now... but can't get it without jumping through some hoops.

Crumbletop... what do you think about this? Possible some of those club funds can be spent on a small stock pile of this and maybe some other medicine? Just an idea for the future.

Sorry I caused your tank crash Gary but you gave me red buggs so we are even ;)

J/k with you Gary, NO he don't have them, I haven't a clue where I picked them up or how long I have been brewing them. That picture doesn't do the smallness of them justice. The pics folks post are on super de dupper macro. I mean super, super magnified. I can be staring right at the ones on the acro and not even see them unless is actinic or I hold my tounge just right and go crosseyed.... Then they magically appear. I guess thats why its so easy to miss them. My interceptor should be here tommorow and I have 60 gallons of fresh saltwater brewing for a change. I Sooo don't look foward to the many water changes to come if I do it by the book on treatments and following up on water changes. I picked out all my hermits and snails last night and am trying to catch my shrimp with no luck.

How long should I leave the hermits/snails in QT to be sure one stuck to them is dead? ANyone know the lifespan?

hey angela, on the cleaners I got from sn8kbit, we put some frozen food in a net and caught them like that. Took a little work but finally got them. You can try that or the bottle trap might work for you?

Steve

I put some food in a mason jar and he went in but swam right out strait up, backwards before I could grab him :( I need a skinnier neck jar tonight. Might try the net with food thing, They couldn't get out fast I bet.

the fishnet with food in it like srt80 said is what i always did and has always worked for me. I actually figured that out by accident when i tried to catch a fish. I put a shrimp pellet in a net and left it in the tank to get my fish use to the net and i noticed the shrimp all jumped right into the net so thats when i figured it was a good way to catch shrimp. but my shrimp will climb up my hand when i put my hand in the tank anyways so i can get them easily but in a larger tank that is probably the best way to do it since thay will always go where the food is and when its in a net then that makes it that much easier to scoop them up.
