well it sounds terrible, but I haven't fed my RBTA in weeks. I tried giving it some food about a week ago but it just grabs it, then lets it all go. Is this normal? The thing that doesn't have me woried is that the nem looks great...as good as ever...

About a month ago I moved the clowns that were hosting it the RBTA to a different tank to quarantine them off from a new arrival that i didn't want them to get aggressive with and hurt. I haven't decided to put them back or not, but in their absence my Porcelain crab has now taken over the hosting duties, which the clowns wouldn't let him do.

And so now my nem won't eat, but looks vrey healthy. Is it possible for nems to survive on just the light...I thought that they HAD to eat eventually. The crab never tires to steal the food...but the nem still won't completely consume it.

is this a problem?

Have you tried to feed it some mysis threw a syringe? I have found that to work. I am not sure on the not feeding though.

I don't have a syringe that BIG! I always use a turkey baster, but like I said when I feed him, he grabs the food, balls up, then relaxes and lets it ALL go. And he looks totaly full and big and healthy all the time.

I think I'd be concerned, personally, as although you don't necessarily have to feed it if it gets enough from the water column, they generally will take food. Try a tiny 1/2 cm piece of silverside.

If you are attempting to save a potentially sick BTA, please do not use silverside. Several have had problems with this food source as a possible bacterial contamination and lead to the anemone dying within a short time span. Instead, use a small piece of food-grade seafood (fish-no bones or scales, octopus, squid, mussels, clams, shrimp, etc.) Make sure it's fresh and raw. That's my condensed version. well it took a little bit of mysis shrimp yesterday...and only spit out about half of what I gave it. So I guess it is still able to eat...but just doesn't need/want to.

maybe his little crabby buddy (merv the perv) is feeding him when I don't look. :D
