Having Problems With Water Parameters

Hey everyone, i am very new to the hobby. I have read every piece of literature i have been able to get my hands on about marine fish and reef keeping, but I still have a bunch of questions. I recently set up my first salt water tank. It is a 75 gallon, with about 60lbs of live rock and a few fish. I am having problems controlling the temperature of my water and have tried everything from raising my light off of the tank, changing the heater (incase the thermostat was malfunctioning), and I have checked all the mechanical devices to make sure nothing has clogged and overheated. If anyone has any ideas to help me control the temperature of my tank I would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

I would suggest the investment of a temperature controller. You can have it operate heaters when the water needs ot be heated and fans or a chiller when the water needs to be cooled off.
As far as testing it, you could try leaving the lights off for a day and see if stays constant. if this is not the heat source you could try unplugging each piece of equip unitll you locate it.

I went through the same thing setting up my 55. I was stumped because it wasnt the heater, lights or the pumps. What i did is installed two computer fans in the hood, one in the back and oneon the side. Now my temp never goes over 80.

Yes a ranco two stage controller would be advised. One stage for controlling a heater, the other for controlling fans.
