Hello everyone well i am posting this to let everyone know that it is possible for even people that somewhat knows what they are doing to watch $,$$$.$$ (hundreds or even thousands of dollars) go down the drain.... Here is the story....
:o
As most of you know i am active duty military and currently owned or had owned a 125 mixed softy and SPS system. Well after getting the phone call on the batphone i was up up and away leaving the family here in TN. while i was at training in FL. knowing that the wife and 9yr didnt really have a clue to making sure the tank was running good all the time i tried to come home every other weekend to do maint and relax with them.. Well for the first month no problems just the normal ghost..
But all of a sudden as Aug hit the ghost turn into demons??? problem 1.
Mon wife calls me and say baby the tank stinks really bad... ok boo turn off the skimmer plug and unscrew and rinse and clean and plug back in. (check)
Tues: baby the tank is making loud noise and spitting tiny bubbles. ok boo and 2 white buckets full of water (check)
get a text while in training (BABY the tank is very cloudy and stinks really bad like a dead fish) damn-it i say to my self ok, drain 2 white buckets, do the skimmer thing again and add another sock (carbon) in the bottom tank. (should be good for 2 days till get home XXXXXXXXX wrong answer.) Well after i got home last friday eve. i kissed the wife, huged the boys and went straight to the tank...
WHAT THE #%$& Happened ????????????? i quickly turn off lights, unplug everthing and start a water test...
here is what i found ::eek2:

temp-- 98.3
amm- 2.5
ph-- 8.5

didnt test anything else new something was wrong started looking around with the flash light on my hands and knees and found prob... 1= my 300 watt heater cracked and was cooking the water, 1= 4.5 in tang and 6 green chromis all kicked the bucket..
i grabed the fish net and started cathing the other fish in there
still have 2 tangs , 2 clowns, 2 cardinals, 1 copperband put them in a fresh bucket with RO/ and tank water? (had no other choice i think) then started thinking 50 miles hr... Will the Softies be ok or not what next to do At this time the SPS were already toast and my cup coral 1/2 gone... So after callin my boss and asking for phone muster to take care of a broken pipe i have drained and cleaned and cleanded and scrubbed and etc... losing my mind...

Asking for someone help in alowing a few frags to part and help jumpstart my system again, and all debts will go unscaved and not forgoten..... :o

So sorry to hear that. I'm happy to donate some SPS frags once you get things rolling and stable again. If you are going to be doing the tank semi-remotely like you have been, then I suggest getting an aquarium controller. A) it could help with temp management, and B) you could check on things via the internet if you get one with web capabilities built in. They cost some $ but are well worth it, IMO.

Oh, Man, sorry to hear about the tank, I can help with some little LPS frags when you are ready, and I second crumbletop's suggestion about a controller. A great investment, to help protect our 100's and 1,000's of dollars of equipment & live stock. Let me know when you have a stable tank.
