Hawaiian Black Trigger Bit Me

The other day I was cleaning the inside of the glass with a scraper when my large Hawaiian Black Trigger came up and bit my hand. It didn't bleed but it felt like he tried to rip a chuck out from me.I have never had him even come close to me before so I wasn't really scared of him. Is this normal for them to attack people? He is one of my favorite fish and I hope he doesn't get on my bad side.

He was most likely looking for something soft and fleshy to eat, and bits of you happened to be conveniently available. I wouldn't worry about it, but just keep an eye on him when you work in the tank and brush him away.

I have been bitten a few times by a picasso trigger, like you said, didn't really do any damage to me...

You just have to consider, your arm probably has a similar consistency to shrimp, crab, shellfish, etc and he decided to try it out for lunch.

You did, afterall, just stick an all you can eat buffet in front of his face and in his house, what was he supposed to do

This is True. :eek1: From the way I see him rip the silversides in half when I try to feed the eel, I am surprised he didnt get a chunk out of me.

This is very normal for triggers. They tend to take nips out of anything in the tank that looks like food to them.

My niger and clown triggers both get curious when I am cleaning the tank. They never used to, but now it is common practice. My niger actually thinks it is funny...it is like a game to him.

I have never been bitten by either of them, but have been bitten by my large angels and can tell you it doesnt feel good. I also was bitten by my puffer and it felt like he ripped the tip of my finger off.

When we go scuba diving, and we see a huge a** triggerfish,we would avoid it coz it has the tendency to attack divers. Especially the fins.

that's wild!
how big is it?

LOL.....our black hawain does the same thing. He bit my finger once and drew blood. He likes to come to the top of the tank and spit water at me as i clean or get ready to feed the tank. It is really challenging to feed the eels with him. We have 3 eels and he is always stealing the food off the stick.

Not surprising at all...My Huma bit me a few times thinking I might me edible....My Maroon Clown used to bite me because he didn't like me near his rock:lol:

I had a Sargassum who would routinely surface and spit water at me. He could shoot a good 4-6" out of the tank.

He is about 8 inches long.

Trigger's WILL BITE THE HAND THAT FEED THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lots o trigger 's and have been bit tons of times.

Yes they will make you bleed and take chunks, google titan trigger attacks and you will see what I mean.

But I have a Ausie black clarky clown and that little bastard is a terrorist, he attacks me relentlessly, and he is getting big and it is starting to really hurt!!!
I am more afraid of that little 4 inch clown fish then I am of my 30 inch shark or 14 inch stellatus puffer LOL.
