Hawkfish and shrimp

I am interested in what members of this forum succesfully keep hawks and shrimp together. If you could please state what kind of shrimp and what kind of hawk it is I would appreciate it. Also who came first.

My reef has been shrimpless since my flame has been in there (2 years) but I really want to add a fire/blood shrimp. He took out a pep when I first added him but I'm hoping the larger size of the fire shrimp will deter him.

Thanks.

I have a longnose hawk and he's great with my shrimps. I have a very large pistol paired with a watchman goby which he never even looks at, and I have about 4 peppermint shrimps that were added after he was well established with out any problem. If your hawkfish has already eaten peppermint shrimp I would be worried about spending $30 on a shrimp that might become a cocktail. Maybe try to find a very large peppermint shrimp and add it and see if the fish tries anything before adding the blood shrimp.

I have a very large Coral banded shrimp shrimp who is close to the max size I think. His body is about the size of a pinky and his antennae have to be around 4-5" they can almost touch the sides of my 55. I added a flame hawk 4 months ago and no problems so far. I have never seen the hawk stalk or follow the shrimp. I know it is a risk but the shrimp is considerably larger in surface area if you consider the body, claws and antennae.

all i can say is i had 4 peppermint shrimp and 2 cleaners, one of which was pretty big, probably close in size to the hawkfish. since adding my flame hawk i am down to 1 peppermint shrimp who i actually just discovered was still alive by accident when moving some rocks around in my tank. needless to say i never see him because the flame scares the crap out of him. i cant say i totally regret it though, my flame is probably one of my favorite and by far the most personable fish i have. in short, flames eat shrimp. but you do occasionally get one that will never touch a shrimp. luck of the draw i guess.

The shrimp will not come out much if a flame hawk is present. The shrimp antennae will be nipped short. You will eventual notice you no longer see your pepperment shrimp if they are in with a flame hawk.
