Head pressure: Horizontal runs?

Hello Everyone,

When calculating return pump output: Do horizontal runs of pipe figure into head pressure charts? My horizontal run will be around 7'.

Thanks,

...depends on the pipe. The larger the diameter of the pipe, the less pressure will be lost from the pump... imagine it like this: if you were pumping into a 12" diameter pipe from a pump with 1/2" pipe, as well as all vertical pipes being 1/2", the water in the 12" diameter pipe would be in a relative static state, wouldnt it? In which case you wouldnt lose pressure due to water velocity. So if you want to minimize horizontal losses, as well as vertical for that matter, use larger pipe diameters.

Hi Rick,

As a generic number, use 1' head loss for every 10' of horizontal run.
pls note it's a *generic* number :)

James
