Heading to the Georgia Aquarium

Luckily I'm already in Atlanta for a wedding, but I'm heading to the aquarium for the day. I'm surprised that after living in Georgia for more than 6 years I never took the "behind the scenes" tour, or even knew that one existed.

Thanks Mlongnecker11 for the heads up!

Is it better then the FL Aquarium? I am going up there in a couple months so I would like to know how it goes. Thanks

Me and the girlfriend sat and stared at the big reeftank for most of the time. It's such a beautiful thing to watch.

Sorry everyone. In amazement right now. The daughter and I just got done with the dolphin show. Our tour starts at 1:00. Will definitely update!

Go to the Coke museum right next door and try "Bibo" it is the version of our Sprite served in Africa! Tastes like candy!

At the end of the tour they have about 100 open fountain drink machines with every flavor served around the world. They give you a souvenir cup and say "have at it!"

They have about 5 separate versions of the normal coke recipe which is segmented around the world for slightly separate tastes/cultural influences.

Of course the SouthAmerican version of coke tastes the best since it is made with actual real sugar cane. (you can buy it at HomeDepot by the case sometimes.)

Both Places are a must go!!

So the trip was long but awesome. I have pictures that I will have to share when I get them transferred.

Parts if the your were quite awesome and I think we got lucky with the timing of the tour (started at 1:00). We went to the large tank where they were feeding the whale sharks. This tank was HUGE. Looked to be the size of a football field and very clear water. You can see the large sawfish shark sitting at the bottom of the tank. The whale sharks continued to make circles through the tank, passing us every few minutes. A beast of a fish.

The your guide seemed to know more about stuff that she was interested in, or had more experience with. She did not know much about the maintenance and types of systems used for running everything. I'm guessing not too many people ask questions about that and they usually ask questions about the fish. I was able to see some cool things they do with fragging, like hang frags (sps) on line from a hanger to see which side grows more before they add them to the tank. I actually enjoyed the area where they take kids for camp. It also helped keep my 19 month old in check.

That brings me to another point. I called to make the reservation and buy the tickets for the tour, asked if children under two would be free, and then meet the your guide who says that if she acts up we might be kicked off the tour. In addition you are not allowed to take a stroller and there are areas where I had to carry her. Both understandable but it would had been nice to know when I purchased the tickets by phone. Maybe that will help someone else before they buy their tickets.

Unfortunately we weren't able to go to World of Coke this trip. I've been before and it is definitely a staple of Atlanta and a must do.

Instead we spent 9 hours at the aquarium and then went to dinner with friends straight from there.
