Heat Disaster - Chiller Pump failed!

Looks like I just lost a bunch of corals - my Quietone pump that sends water through my chiller quit on me as I was out to dinner tonight so I came home to a 90F tank and lots of corals dying. :(
I don't even know what to do other than replace the pump - already done to stabilize the temp.
It is down to normal levels now but I have plenty of horrible looking corals.
This might be it for me.... stay tuned :(

OMG noooo........... sorry to hear that....I have a dolphin pump 2000GPH that I dont use I can meet you tomorrow if you want. If anything else I can do let me know but pls DONT GIVE UP!!

Sorry to hear about your problems Opie, try to hang in there!

Let me know if you need help with anything. If the spike only lasted a few hours, there is a good chance they will recover.

I always keep spare pumps for this reason so I have changed it out but I think the damage may be done.
I'll put some pics up if things look better.
:(

once everything settles down and under control I can sapre you some frags of sps or anything... You helped me once so its my turn to help a great guy..... good luck opie

Thanks dude.... but this will probably mean a break from the hobby for me if things are as bad as they look right now.

sorry to hear that.... but if i may .. why is your tank getting up to 90 at night?

Because my lights are staged to be on when I get home around 5PM and they stay on till about 10PM.
3x 250W MH
2x 110 Actinics
1 Iwaki 55RLT + other pumps for skimmer, calcium reactor all add some heat.

Opie,
Sorry to hear, hang in there, I too had a temp spike to 90 a couple of months ago, I thought I lost all my sps, they all bleach pure white, but I left everything in the tank thinking it will just become like live rock and I would start over, well I was amazed after a few days some corals started to color up again, after a month and 1/2 everything is back and I only lost 1 sps. So hang in there.

how high up are your lights from your tank.. i have 4 250 MH and 12 t5's on my 300 gallon and i live in LA where the temps are always warm.

if possible raise your MH's to 8"- 10" above the water.. that will eliminate/ reduce the need for a chiller and will also act as a fail safe as your water wont be able to heat up like that again. thats what i did and it really helped...

sorry to hear about the loss though...

i feel ur pain opie, just last week my tank got up to 85 cuz my sump fan dint kick on & i came home to 3 nice SPS colonies that where whiter then white they are gonners but i have 3 more that are hanging in there, i hope ur's make it.
hang in there bro.

Oh Opie! Sorry to hear about the overheating. I hope things start looking up and some of your corals make it. Otherwise you know that plenty of us will share frags with you to get you started again. You can rebuild it! Maybe a fan over the sump or in the canopy would help prevent a "next time".

Steve's sig says it all. Never give up. Never surrender.

Opie, really sorry to hear what happened. I have no idea how I can help, but let me know and I'll be there. A break is good to restrategize and come back stronger. Just don't give up!

This is one scenario where an Aquacontroller type product could save lives. I have mine programmed to shut off all lights if the temp goes above 84. Expensive? yes. But it gives me some peace of mind when I'm away from the tank.

OPie,
Really sorry to hear this..your tank was looking awesome.
Give me a call if there is anything at all I can help you with.

Opie. ditto. All sticks here though, you're more than welcome to all. Things'll look up; don't give up. Stickheads are getting scarce these days :D

Thanks for the support guys... a few corals are totally bleached but I can see polyps on some of them. I'll just give it some time and hopefully they will recover.
Cheers!
