Heat generated from Radions?

I am just getting back into the hobby and my last two light setups before I got out were MHs and T5s. Both setups generated quite a bit of heat. How much heat does a single Radion create in a closed hood with an open back and slotted top?

Do LEDs still require a chiller?

LEDS heat is on the back side, where as T5's and MH's put heat into the tank, LEDS do not. But if you are going to put them into a canopy you will need to vent the top so the heat will escape. Heat is an enemy to LED light fixtures

I had AI Sol's in a canopy, they replaced a Halide/PC fixture and I was able to remove my chiller. I havent seen Radions in a canopy in person but have felt several running and they feel as cool to the touch as my AI's so I would think you would be just fine in the canopy as long as you have decent ventilation.

I have 2 Radions on my 120 gallon tank. There is no noticeable heat from the fixtures. The fans suck in the air and blow it out the side.

Are your 2 Radions enough light on your 120? I'm getting mixed reviews. How are yours mounted?
Thanks

I have (3) Radions in a canopy on my 180 gallon tank. The heat is not bad at all compared to MH and T5's. I too went from MH to T5's to LED. When I incorporated an external pump to my system, I put in a tee with a ball valve in the line for future attachments such as my chiller.

I live in central CA where the temperature can reach triple digits. So far, the highest it has gotten here is about 95 degrees and the highest my tank has gotten is 79.4 degrees. So far, I don't find the need to attach my chiller so it has been off line but then again, the temperature has not reached 100.

I do have (2) fans in my canopy in which I have one turn at noon and stays on till 6pm. This has helped tremendously in keeping that tank below 79 degrees. I have the other fan set to come on if my water reaches 81 degrees.

I have two Radions on my 110 5' tank, according to everyone its not enough light but my corals are doing well growth and colorwise. I didn't want to pay for a third, I think three would be better but I have LPS and softies and they have more than enough light I'm not even running them higher than 80%. I dont have sps though so i cant judge sps. I think the key is breaking in your corals to the different style lighting by having them low and eventually moving them higher. I live in southern Florida and I don't need a chiller at all on my tank in fact I have a heater.

Yes, 2 radions are enough for my 4' tank. This is all SPS. I don't use a hood so they are hanging from the ceiling using 2 hanging kits.

After running for 13 hours I can put my hand on the bottom of the unit and it is warm but not hot. You will get more heat in your tank from an internal return pump then from the Radions.

I have dual radions on my 90. The hood is closed and open in the back. When you open the front you get slapped in the face with a small heat wave. I keep my house temp around 75, and the tank stays at 78. Hottest part during the day (Louisiana) the tank may get to 78.9 once I added a small 6" walmart fan for 12 bucks. Before I added the fan the temp was going to 79.8ish on really hot days.
