I have a 180 dt in my living room it is plumbed out to my garage to a 100 gal rubbermade sump and hooked up to a 65 gal frag tank I am having heat issues my tank goes up to 82. I run a rkl it turns my light off and one power off when the temp hits 82.1 I am running 5 60 inch t-5s on the dt and 4 48 inche t-5s on the frag tank that's out in the garage. Would a window unit in the garage work to bring the temp down? The garage is fully insulated walls and doors I run a few fans out there too. If I have to go with a chiller what size should I get 1/4 hp?

Here is a pic of my setup!

turn all the lights off in the garage during the day and run them at night.

Yes any ventilation you can get in the garage will help

I still think a swamp cooler works better and cheaper then a chiller plus keeps the house cooler

Ok but would a AC unit work to cool it down enough or will I end up still having to get a chiller? I'm tryin to save some money a chiller is $$$

82 degrees will not break the system. Saying that, I'd say you'd be better off with bigger than a 1/4hp.

Im setting up a very similar system but with Halides in the DT. I have a chiller but im afraid it is not going to work. what kind did you buy?

What is the temperature in your garage during the day? I have a friend who has a A/C in his garage and makes a world of a difference. He does not run a chiller either. But just remember, you have to buy the right size to cool down the size of your garage. The chiller you have will help bring down the temp but if your garage is always super hot the chiller will always be kicking on. Like someone said earlier, make sure no lights are on only at night and run more fans. The more water evaporation the lower the water temp cools.
