Heat problems

The heat has taken most of my corals:(

I have a large devils hand and Kenya tree that are slumped over and most likely not going to make it. The question I have is at what point do I cut them out? I don't want to act premature if they have any chance of recovery.

Well if at any point you see the flesh literally turning to goo, you can probably be assured it's done for, I've had soft corals tolerate temperatures of 90F for quite a few hours and still come back, yeah they were majorly PO'd but they survived.

Good thing about soft corals is that they grow very fast and I'm sure someone in the area would be more than happy to give you a few frags to help you out after the heat wave passes if you do have any die off.

I have the same question. I think what I'm gonna do is poke the possibly dead corals with a stick and see if it disintegrates into mush. Leathers are fairly firm when healthy, and turn to mush when dead.

Yeah I recall one of the MARS frags swaps I went to where everything was initially out in the sun (oh yah it was a hot day too), I saw first hand what boiled corals look like :) My poor Xenia was nothing but a brown residue in the bag when I got home.
