Heater in overflow?

Does anybody run their heater in the overflow? I have one in my sump in the bubble trap and want to add one. Thinking about the averflow? What's your thoughts? Center overflow on the back of a cube.

I've ran them in the overflows on a few tanks before. I had 1 in each corner-flo in my 125g and 1 in my center overflow in my 40g breeder.

If you place the heater in the overflow, the heated water has to travel the farthest on it's way back to the display. Therefore, it would have lost significant heat before it reaches the display tank (assuming your room temp is relatively cool). That said, the best place to place the heater is the display tank to optimize the use of heat. JMO

+1... I was going to place mine in the overflow as well until I thought about it and came to this same conclusion. I have since placed it in the chamber with my return pump, no complaints.

Thanks, I do have one inbetween the baffles of the bubble trap. I think i will place the second in the same chamber with the return pump. I just felt like the one in there is working overtime and i wanted the tstat on it to open and close a little more instead of staying open so long and possibly sticking open.

i have 2 corner overflows with a heater in each. Tank is 185g display w/30g sump. Works fine for me.

And, if it has a separate temperature sensor, that sensor needs to be in the same space/chamber or overheating may result.
