Heater

That is what I am using now but it malfunctioned. I came home last night and my tank was almost at 86 degrees. Luckily I caught it early enough.

I love Finnex titanium heaters with the control, but they seem to be better suited for sumps. If you need one to hang in the tank, Jager is a good choice IMO.

Several Years ago I managed a fish store. At that time RENA was the top name for heaters & pumps. They are still in Business and I have RENA heaters in all my tanks currently.

In my 55G reef I have 2 150W heaters. That why if one quits I have a backup. I have a 300W RENA in my 29G keeping the sand warm till my mom gets over here and gets it.

I have been read many thread about the Won Brother Titaniun heater. They seen to malfunction after purchase. I currently have one and have it on a temperature controller. It's approx. 6 months old and seen fine so far. I keep waiting for it to fail.

Now why did it do that? I was mearly editing my post for a spelling error and it made a new post with just the quoted text. Odd.

Finnex makes a nice heater. Search www.premiumaquatics.com

Does the Finnex have the power plug in back and part of the controller like Won Brother heaters or they have a power cord? I went on the above website and could not tell.

Dang Drew didn't that happen not too long ago?? I am assuming that everything is okay with the tank?? I can't remember which heater I am using for my 75g, I will check tonight, but it is at least 4 yrs old, never an issue.

Yes, something similar happened but that was due to the summer heat. Now my heater is malfunctioning. Maybe I need to hook my chiller up in the winter too.

Another thing to consider is getting a seperate temp. controler. I use the reefkeeper. ( not sure if you remember me showing it to you, on my 58g) I set the heater higher than need be, but the reefkeeper turns it off alltogether at a set point (80.5 in my case)

Good point Todd,

I really should buy one of those. Does it have a wave timer also? What was the brand again?

Drew, I answer that in detail in reply to your PM. But short answer, yes it can be set up as a wave timer for up to 3 PH. It is called the Reefkeeper, by Digital Aquatics, a sponsor here.

I've had a WON digital pro heat II for 2 yrs now with no malfunctions however I plan to get a ranco single stage controller soon to be sure.

Finnex- 500 watt heater. Cooked an entire quarantine tank.

24 blue chromis- dead

3/4 purple fire fish- dead

3/6 Starki damsels- dead

Tonight my won- brothers 1000 watt heater/controller (non-digital) is not working.

I give up. Apparently you have to buy an expensive controller.

I don't get it. I have been in and out of this hobby for over 25 years. The old cheap heaters were more reliable that this.

I have a digital 1000 watt won-brothers heater that has been working fine but I don't trust it anymore now.

To be on the safe side, I think all heater should be on a controller. I have the Reefkeeper controlling 2 won bros 350watts. Heaters set at 80. Reefkeeper shuts off powers at 78.5. Never a problem and I don't worry.

I am coming to the same conclusion and I am looking at higher end controllers now.

Sad that we have to spend hundreds of dollars on a controller when that should not be a necessity.

This would NEVER happen with an Ebo jaeger heater; technology that is old and time tested. I wish they would produce a higher watt model.
