setting up a side project ( so kinda dont want to spend a ton of $$)
that said I do what quality gear.

tank info standard 20L or maybe a aquamax 22 long prob. just try to keep it simple for now.
AC70 filter
tank is going to be a macro and sponge tank.

so not sure what you nano guys use for heaters? it will be in the DT so kinda what something slim or small. or is there a way to mod the AC with a heating unit some how?

looks like nano ppl like the colbolt neo therm? are they worth the money?
or just get a finnix or jager?
is there any other slim sleek brands I should know about?

I use a finnex 50w in my 15 gallon nano. It's metal and small and hides inside my ac 70 with my skimmer. I'm switching all my tanks to those because I love that a box with a dial outside the tank is how you set the temp.

I just got an AC70 in the mail with the InTank media basket and a Hydor Theo 50 Watt Heater fits perfectly in the basket.

I show it in my build thread video link.

ok i'll look in to the 50W finnex and dbl check my AC is the 70 I really hope it is.
does it stand up in the AC70 or lay flat?

I'm using a cobalt neotherm and it's a pretty small, flat heater. I have two of them, one for waterchange water and one for the tank, and they've held up well so far. Probably flat enough to fit in a HOB filter.

shoot my AC is the 50 not the 70 guessing its a bit smaller..
looked it up. AC50 is 4X 9x8 guessing i am not going to find a heater that will fit that right?

did you guys mod your AC? can you post pics plz

I just put some sand, a small rock, and the bio bag that came with the ac 70 in the back with the heater. I cut a small square with a dremel in the lid for my skimmer. I made the whole compartment mod on my ac 110 and one wall ended up blowing out because I used cheap silicone and I used to much. I recommend svt silicone from Grainger. It's expensive but worth it to know it's going to hold and make a strong bond. Hope that helps and good luck!!!

And yes the finnex 50 will fit in your ac 50 it's tiny. It's 5.6"x1"x1"

I have a 10 Gallon Nano and use a Cobalt Neotherm 100W. It is a bit of overkill and every once in a while I feel like the internal thermometer on it lags a bit and doesn't cut off right when the tank water goes above the set point. Also, I have it set at 74 degrees because it reads about 2 degrees lower than my mercury thermometer but all in all when the temperature in my room is steady I have no temperature fluctuation in the tank.

I use the Finnex HMO-150 Heater in my 26 Gallon Bowfront, it sits against the back wall diagonally behind the rocks. You can see the cord because it has coraline growth.

for those that use the finnex 50 in there AC HOB filters how did you get the cord out?
Make a small cutout with a dremel tool cutoff disc. That's what I did I'll take a pic of it when I get to the shop.

Let us know if it fits well and take a pic since I'm looking to upgrade my fluval edge heater that has anew ac50 with ac70 impeller on it.
