what do you run for heaters? my 240 im running a bunch of typical heaters, i feel theres gotta be a better way for bigger tanks.

I actually feel safer with multiple 200-300 w heaters. Odds of a malfunction on all three are lower, and if one malfunctions on its own it's not strong enough to cook the tank.

On really big tanks I've seen a heat exchanger connected to a hot loop, but that's not really an off the shelf item.

heaters

About 10 years ago I remember seeing a thread of a guy that used a gas house hot water heater to heat a pool that he converted into a reef habitat (I wouldn't call it an aquarium because it was a pool for crying out loud). The water heater was running on a close loop system. He had an external pump that could handle hot water. He ran insulated pvc under ground from the above ground filtration system to the water heater. Then had a radiator type thing made of pvc that sat in the filtration container. The pump was located before the water heater so it would get the water after it had time to heat exchange. The pump would run constantly. Some how the igniter was linked to a temperature controller from the tank. Im also not sure how he worked out the pressure in the system from heating and cooling water.
