heaters

tank watch

I havent seen a lot of talk on heaters for large tanks. What brand and wattage are you guys using? How much wattage is necessary on 600 to 700 gallon systems? ...Matt

I think it's hard to beat titanium heaters (with no thermostats) plugged into a Ranco or similar high-grade controller. You definitely do not want a heater sticking on you.

Does anyone know how many amps the ranco controller can handle? I am starting up a 225 and want to use 2 350 watt heaters. is this ok?

I'm running 2 300watt - at least I was, for the winter I took one out to use for water changes in the garage and haven't needed to put it back in - but I'm in Florida too

I'm running 2 500w titanium heaters on my 180g without a problem...........been doing this for 3 years now. Bought my titanium heaters (without the thermostats) from jehmco and my Ranco off ebay and wired it a double connector and 3 prong plug using a schematic off a homemade brewing website.

I bought a heavy duty extension cord at home depot to use for my cord and plug.

Maybe because most large tanks do not need heaters.. I have never ran a heater in my large reef tanks. Although running a chiller is a must...

Happy Reefing.
