Heating

How do you heat a 240 gallon tank with a sump/fuge that could hold 150g?

Would you do this with several small heaters? or is there a better way?

You can buy very large heaters (i.e. 1000 W), but in case of equipment malfunctions, a few smaller heaters are generally better.

You need to keep the room temp stable so that it provides a most of the heating. Then supplement with smaller heaters in the sump. You can't have huge differences in room temp to tank temp or you will have condensation all over the place.

i have a 240 with about 100 gallon sump that i heat with 2 300 watt heaters on a controller. My tank is in the basement which gets very cold in the winter, yet the 2 heaters are suffice.

So i dont want the tank to be at 80deg and the room at 72deg? This is one of my biggest concerns as i have read a post some time ago where a large tank ruined a few rooms with all the humidity that was not vented properly.

Most people set up some form of direct venting from the aquarium to the outdoors. For a small tank it's not such a big deal, but for a big tank you are obviously getting into a whole new ballgame. Some vent the room. Some vent from the hood directly. It's definitely something you want to consider, including raising the room temperature a bit.

So in a room that will be within a few degrees to keep the tank stable, and some sort of exhaust to the outside.
