Heavily Modified Biocube Build

Because this is my first LED tank (previously had a T5 tank and some MH tanks) I've really struggled to take good pictures and give people an insight as to what the tank actually looks like. I think I have finally figured in out. My method is to shoot the photo in a mode that washes all the blue out of the picture. I then take it into Lightroom and add the blue back in. I have found that if I don't do it this way the blue will completely overrun the picture. So yes these shots are edited but I edited them to reflect what the coral looks like in my tank to the naked eye.

Some of my SPS (I've forgotten most of their names):

Top part was stung by my now deceased RBTA:

any idea why it died?
btw- can you build my biocube same as yours? :-)

I'm not sure why it died. It's very disheartening. I've successfully kept BTAs for the past few years (sold both when I sold my last tank after having them for 2+ years) so it is humbling to lose one

I can't build as it as had a ton of help. But you could duplicate my tank with a little skill and a lot of money.

Looking good! What dry rock did you use?

Thanks. I got my rock off macrorocks dot com.

Just have one quick question for you what was your led color ratio? I have 12/12 royal blues and cool whites and I can't seem to get the bluer look as you did I can but I have to run my whites at like %20 and the blues at 100

I'm alive and so is the tank! Had a baby and moved to a temporary house while building a new one has kept me busy. I have the tank in survival mode until it's in it's permanent spot in my new house.

Love that Sump

Love that Sump

I drilled my 29 BioCube several years ago and made a glass sump with fuge for the stand. Just a couple of days ago the sump failed (not catastrophically, thank goodness) not much in the tank as I was starting it back up so I was able remove fish and pause to think about what to do next. Really like that custom sump and am hoping can find someone to make me a new one that is more sturdy. Is yours all glass or are the black panels acrylic?

I hope this thread isn't dead. But one question for you. Why did you not remove the back wall since you drilled it? Just curious.. Thinking about drilling my cube

Just didn't think of it before doing it and I would have had to put an overflow box instead of just using the PVC.

My tank and thread are not dead at all! About 6 months after getting this tank going we moved in to a temporary house while we built a new one. Mind you, that we had a 3 month old during the move as well. Needless to say the tank didn't get the attention it should have. Thankfully, things like the skimmer, Apex, and ATO really helped. I basically went into tank survival mode for 8-10 months. We just moved into our new house 2 weeks ago and the tank is getting back on track. I have a sea hare in there cleaning out a touch of GHA but other than that it's starting to thrive again.

I'll post pics as soon as I figure out where we packed the camera!

I have a red sea 250 and a 28 gallon nano. I just upgraded my red sea but now you have me wanting to upgrade my nano and get rid of my big tank! I wanna get into breeding clowns so that's why I bought the nano to begin with.

I'm fine with the way it is although I have twice pulled a clownfish out of chamber 2. I think removing the plastic would give you like 2 extra inches of depth which I guess would be nice.

I have the same setup only with the 14 Biocube, if I was to do it again, I would remove the false wall and build a custom overflow for the back pane of glass. I too have pulled my clowns out of chamber 2 a few times...
