Heavy-Duty All-PVC SCWD; complete deconstruction/rebuild pics

I sent the same email to the folks that make Maxijets about a year ago. Now there's TWO different companies out there selling Maxijet Mod kits. The bigger companies get, the "stoopider" they get.

I am almost done with my mod. How did you get the hole in the tumbler right in the middle? I have tried 3 times now and failed each time. It doesn't rub on anything, but it is off center just a tad. Will this hurt performance that much?

I built this one, a mod of the mods on this and other threads.
I had a Mag 3 on a two outlet closed loop system, now with the SCWD I've had to throttle back flow on my 10g sps! Thanks so much for the inspiration, why buy when you can DIY!

Here it is installed on my system. I may do some further mods on the outlets to get more diverse flow around the tank.

Motorized oscillating valve!

This unit is being tested as we speak and if I like results I will post a diy on how to build it.

thats a neat idea... make sure you keep us up-to-date on that one... I'm getting ready to replumb my system, so I'll either be modding my SCWD or building something better...

I am having an issue with mine stalling. It seems that the tolerances in the geartrain are not real close. The moving "door" keeps shifting and hanging up on the sides of the housing. Is there anything I can do instead of opening it up every other day to give it a kick start?

Need help with remodeled scqwd!!!

Need help with remodeled scqwd!!!

Okay, I need some suggestions and input. I just finished putting together and installing my extreme home makeover scqwd. It has a 1.5" body with 1" inlet/outlets. I am feeding it with a quiet one 4000 (1000 gph).

It seems that the drum is not turning or it is turning extremely slow (2 min. or longer) when installed into my closed loop. The part that I am confused about is the fact that when I did the testing (no, I did not miss this critical step) it seemed to turn fine with water and wind (breath of air).

Please give me your suggestions.

there any updates on this thread? IE anyone been running this for a while with success? Or any new and improved? Looking to do this but want to see how its working out in the longterm!

Eric

Mine has been running for several months with no problems. Since it works I haven't tried "improving" it! As for the problems of jcgreen7 and blakduc, I'm not sure. jc, I put a ball valve at the output of the pump, before the SCWD so I could regulate the water flow. Too high of a flow could cause your problems.
blak, if you did a complete reconstruction, maybe you didn't get the gears and drum lined up straight in the body, sounds like it might be offcenter, or maybe your drum isn't secure on the shaft, allowing it to wobble.

Ok so i have two scwd who is going to build me one with 1" ins and outs i will pay and give another scwd who does it for me.

ya know, I just sold a brand new SCWD here on RC last week that I had laying around. GRRRRRRRR

I am going to try and use the ideas here and then fabricate the whole device from scratch and found parts.

Hey good Idea russ! I would like to do it myself too but I am thinking that would be even better! Send my original out get it done and then do my own down the road! Any takers?

First post here at rc. I have been lurking for a long time and picked up some great ideas. I did'nt notice anyone posting a 4 way scwd, so I thought I would try it. The body is done and all that is left is to put the three braces around the body of the gearbox. I will have it done in the next couple of days and if it goes well I will post pics. For now I have gone with a 1" inlet and 3/4" outlets and will test initially with a mag 12

Just finished mounting gear box into pvc cylinder of 4way squid and ran water through it from the tap. Surprisingly to me, it worked! Will hook it up to a pump soon and if all is still well post pics
