Hectors goby -- Ate at LFS, only sand sifts in Biocube

Just wondering if anyone else dealt with this.

Got him pretty thin from an LFS, he hate some mysis with selcon so great. Once he made it in my DT (29g Biocube) all he's wanted to do is sift sand. He grew a nice big gut, but he's also tiny at like 1.25" -- So if he prefers sandy treats that's cool, but that wont last forever in a 29g.

He hasn't touched Frozen since -- will this be a problem when he exhausts the resources?

The one that I had loved NLS pellets in the 1mm and .05mm sizes. He wouldn't touch any frozen foods that I fed including frozen brine shrimp. He just LOVED those pellets.

Si,ce yours is so small I'd try the small pellets. Mine was full grown when I got him and sadly I only had him about 8 or 9 months and one day he didn't come out of his hole. ;(

If you'd like to try them just PM me and I can mail some to you to give it a shot before you go buying some, Unless of course you already have them.

how long have you had him? sometimes it just takes them a while to settle in.

did you ensure that you have the same kind of food that he was taking in the LFS, and not something similar, but different?

mine lived in a 20 long with no supplemental feeding for well over a year before i moved him in to my 35 cube (display "fuge"). he shared his space with a tiny dragonet while and it didn't seem to be an issue. granted the tank was a sewer, so plenty of pods and algae for him to graze on.

i would keep trying him on stuff. it can also help if there are other fish taking prepared food. mine didn't really start eating frozen until my OSFF pair was temporarily housed with him in there. after a while of watching them eat mysis, he seemed to warm up to it much better.

failing that mine always goes for live white worms, live black worms, and live baby brine shrimp.

Haha, thanks! I love NLS food, unfortunately I have the Thera A with extra garlic in .5mm sinking. No fish will go near it, it doesn't even register as food to them! I've even soaked 'em in Selcon. No go. So I'd say it's probably just a waste, although a kind offer.

At the shop he was picking at a Selcon mix of LRS Nano, and baby Mysis (forget which brand). Two of my snails mysteriously started growing hair algae on them when I put GFO back in the mix, and as of today he was following them around and nibbling at their shells.

I could definitely try the worms. My fish all eat frozen but none of them will touch pellets. In the shop he was picking at baby mysis and LRS Nano mixed with Selcon. He's picked at LRS slivers that end up near him, but he really prefers sand. So he's nibbled it a couple times but is content just working the sand. He's got a large belly and he's already growing so he's doing great *for now*. Just want to ensure he keeps doing great.

Like I said above, I added some GFO to the reactor and 2 snails started growing crazy hair algae on them.. That was kind of a new one, but he's been following them around and nibbling at them from time to time grazing on their algae.

I've also got a Liter a Matrix in the AIO section so I've got a metric ton of pods for him to peck at. They surprisingly reproduce happily in the Matrix and live off whatever ditritus and food scraps wash into that basket (it doubles as my 'filter media')
