Can a Hectors Goby live off of algae in the tank??

I recently bought a Hectors Goby and I was wondering if it could feed off of the algae in my tank. He is roaming around my tank nipping at the green and hair algae, he doesnt go after the food I feed. I saw him eat at the store before I bought it, I guess i should give it some time. Im going to try cyclopeeze tommorow.

might want to ask the lfs where ya got him what they feed. but besides that i'm sure he will settle in if he's already picking at the rocks.

ok it seems like the only thing he will eat is algae, and alot of it. He is constantly eating algae off the rocks. Can my goby live off of eating algae

no, I haven't had the chance to find any, but he doesn't look skinny, the algea seems to fill him up..i guess

Yes, if the tank is large enough and/or there's enough algae.

They often are quite reluctant to take prepared foods. Nutramar Ova and Cyclop-Eeze are usually good choices to try to get them acclimated over.

So long as the fish looks healthy and there's hair/turf algae for him to eat, I wouldn't worry too much about it. These gobies love algae, it's not unusual for them to prefer it over frozen or pelleted food if it's available.
