I have a FOWLR tank 125 Gallons. I am looking to get solo or pair of Helfrichi Firefish. Can you guys give me some feedback.

Also, any idea where I can get one for a reasonable price? Everyone wants over $120 for one fish...

ok my experience with this fish was not good....he didnt make it but about a month and a half and im pretty sure from what I have read up on them is that they really prefer cooler waters as they are caught in deeper water. I think mine went quick becuase I had some high temps this summer. Ive never seen them under $120. very expensive fish.

I loved the one I had. It was happy and healthy for the year that I had it. If you get them, use bird netting to keep it from jumping. Eggcrate will not work. Also, make sure all of your powerheads have covers over the intakes. I came home to find my firefish dead sucked against maxi jet intake! Not something you want to have happen when you are spending this much money on fish.

I have one for over a year now and I keep my temp at 80-81 deg. I do have a pond netting cover to prevent jumping. Yeah they run about $100. A lot of color for a small fish. I like em.

agreed with everyone else, you'll definitely want to protect yourself from a jump. expect to pay ~$100 for them.

Helfrichi Firefish

Hello:

I have had a matted pair that I bought from liveaquaria.com in my ELOS system 70 which is a rimless tank. I have had them for over 1 year now and I have never had an issue with them however firefish in general are known jumpers when harrased, the companios of my firefish are seahorses and a matted pair of naked percs so its a very peaceful tank.

They are shy eaters so you must take that into consideration if you are putting them in a tank that hosts agressive eaters since they wont get anything to eat and just go into hidding every time you put food in the tank.

Bottom line is, if you water is good and they dont get harrased by other tankmates they wont jump.

Regards,

E

P.S. if you are going to spend the money for a pair make sure you buy a healthy pair that has already been QTed, etc. liveaquaria.com is the only play I buy fish from.

Just FYI on the bird netting. I had a firefish go flying through it, and it was even 3/8" netting. I wouldn't trust it to keep any dartfish from going through--they are very slender.
