helfrichi firefish

I just read in a reef mag that it's best to keep any of these fish as a pair, though they are expensive since it's a deeper water fish. I think it's a pretty fish, but not for the price imo, but to each their own. I guess if I had the funds I would like to keep a pair, but there are other fish out there that I would probably purchase over these ones. Again, all out of my price range lol. What kind of opinion were you looking for? On keeping them? Just in general?

It's hard to sex them. Best if you can find some that are already paired so you don't mix two males together.

yea it seems they are starting to get less expensive these days unfortunitly all my lfs keep them above 100 yikes

Unless they are a true pair, they will fight. If you plan on keeping a pair, I would look for a true pair. Diver's Den offers them from time to time.

just looking on everyone inpute about keeping 2 if i can find a bonded pair in a 28gal

Simple answer is it depends on what other fish are in the tank. They're jumpers too.... so if they got chased by a local bully they'd either retreat to the LR or to the water surface.

I've had my pair for over a year now, but wouldn't introduce other fish that occupy a similar niche to them in my sized tank. JM2c

good luck!

Yes, you make a very important point. They can be easily bullied and if they are, they will perish one way or the other.
