I bought a newly impored speciment about 5 inches wide ,a purple tip one that looked healthy enough. The polyps where fully extended and the body had swolen the first two days, but since then a portion of the coral about 15% has retracted to the body.I tried to feed the coral today with mysid shrimp and it rejected the food after it had eaten it......
My tank parameters are ph:8,4 Ca:390,alk:3meqV,Mg:1200.I light the tank with 4 T5 bulbs and 2 T8 actinic.( enough light I think-my staghorn acro seems to increase ).What do yo think? Can I save the coral?

I have no experience with heliofungia myself. From what I've read here they can be very tricky.

In general I would try to get the CA and the MG up a bit. How deep a tank do you have? If your T5's have great reflectors and are overdriven on IceCap Ballasts you could have too much light and need to shade it with some screening until it adjusts.

What time do you feed? I would continue to try at dusk or after the lights go out. Add some Selcon or at least some garlic. I use the garlic to stimulate the feeding response.

What kind of flow is it getting?

Hope this helps. These are all things I considered when I was having trouble with a fungia that I had that started to close up a week after I got it. It responded and has been doing well for the last six months.

I've had pretty good success with heliofungia. I agree with blange3...I keep my Ca at 450-470 and Mg between 1300-1400.

Thank you guys!Heliofungia got worse with dead tissue in two places covering about 35% of the coral.....I got it dipped in lugols tonight. It didin't react very well though....got slimy.I am not very optimistic....
Circulation is TUNZE wavebox, and 500g/h from sump.
