Heliopora aka Blue Ridge Coral?

Who has experience with these? I just discovered them and fell in love with the pictures I've seen so far, but am having trouble finding a place to buy a frag from!
How hard are these corals to keep? I'm still a bit new with corals, no leathers yet, just 3 lps and two zoas, so this would be my first "softie". I do have reef breeder photons on order which *should* be delivered sometime this week :)

One of my favorite corals... They will survive under a variety of conditions but thrive under bright light and a lot of water flow with alternating patterns. The nicest one I had was about 10 inches below the water surface, under a 250 watt 10k mh. These guys do use calcium so be aware of that... They plate out so give the base room to grow. They shed regularly and will close during that process. Try CL or liveaquaria.com for a frag. I would send you one but my new blue ridge is just a frag itself!

Thank you for the info! I have 48" Reef Breeder Photons arriving tomorrow/Wednesday, would that support one?
Does it need calcium dosing like an SPS does or will it be okay with just regular water changes like most LPS?

I am not familiar with LEDs so cant say for sure. I would bet it will survive. Might not be optimal, but should be okay. My current tank uses 4 t5s and my frag is plating. It's not as fast growing as the one I had under MHs but is doing okay. Best bet is to get a frag and try it! A frag wontvneed anything beyond regular water changes but once it starts to get bigger and is competing with coraline algae, you may need to supplement. Point is, it's good to test water parameters no matter what you keep and by doing so, you can make sure to supplement if/when necessary...

a little store in manahawkin (the town you go through to get to LBI) usually has some frags of it. The store is called Josh's Pet Agree

These are one of my favorite corals; I have a frag that is a slow grower but it has done well in less than optimal (i.e. GHA, red slime) water quality. I had to dip it in a weakened solution (1 part H/P:10 parts tankwater, 3% concentration) of Hydrogen Peroxide because it was being taken over by GHA and it not only survived but has fully extended its polyps for the first time in two weeks now that the GHA is gone. I am shifting from T5s to LEDs for the first time, so I'll post a pic when I get it under the new lights.
