Anybody remember me??
This is my third reappearance on RC. I'm back yet again, plotting a new tank.
I was here around 2005-2007... Had a 180. Then I had to dismantle that when I had an opportunity to move to Scotland.
Then while in Scotland I returned to the hobby and to RC, ~2009-2010... I was renting an apartment there, but I set up an all-in-one-system, the Red Sea Max 250 (66 gal). That one didn't last long either, as I had to dismantle it to move back to the States (and back to STL).
I had a kid while over there, and now she's 8. She's awesome but now old enough to allow for other demands on my time. Life is stable, if super busy. Lately, I've been getting the itch... And hubby is on board, too.
We have a good spot for a tank in the dining room. A 4' would look best in that location, so I am thinking 120 gal.
I'm also really considering a basement sump again (like I did for my 180), for all its various benefits... However, I'm not sure yet whether it will be doable on that wall; it was an exterior wall and is solid brick, although we believe there is maybe ~2" between the drywall and the brick. We need to do some more investigation there.
I want to keep life (relatively) simple, so I am planning for relatively hardy fish and only softies when it comes to coral. (I actually really considered going FW instead with a cichlid tank, but I love the variety with all the inverts, etc, I can keep with salt - unlike with cichlids specifically.)
I can see that things have changed a bit in the ~8 years I have been out of the hobby. I have a lot of reading to do to refresh myself and start figuring out equipment, etc. And then there are all the LFS additions & losses to get up to speed on.
And I look forward to getting caught up on what's going on around here.
