Hi All,
We made it out here Thursday and I'm happy to report that every single living thing in the cooler survived the 3 days on the road. I was worried because my DC outlet in the car burned out the first day so the pump and heater were a done deal by the end of day Tuesday. I kept the battery operated pump going and we just didn't stop anywhere for any length of time during the heat of the day. Had a close call in Las Vegas because I was just too tired to bring in the cooler and then overslept the next morning. Got the car air conditioning going just as the temp was starting to rise.
Found a REALLY nice LFS here. They go down to LA and hand pick stuff to sell in the store. They've been keeping reef tanks since the 80s and are really knowledgeable and extremely nice. In their display tank, they have a BIG, fat, happy Moorish Idol and a Naso Tang so fat he looks like someone put a bicycle pump in his mouth and pushed.
So my 24 gallon is all set up and looking good. I had more critters in there than I realized: crabs, snails, emerald crab, etc. There were some zoanthids, one green sarco, and blue clove polyps. Everything looks great. Here are some pics of some of the survivors:
