Howdy all, Noob up here in Clarksville. I am getting ready to setup my first sw tank. I have a 55g that i have had fw fish in for 2yrs now. I wanted to stop in and say hi to the locals and well pick your brains too :P . I am looking at doing this . do you have any suggestions? also what does everyone think of the ebay sand, ro/di units and live rock?

Welcome! You may want to post over on the MTRC (Middle TN Reef Club) section here on RC. A lot more people look around there than here. Which ebay, Emerald Bay in Nashville or ebay.com? For RO/DI I've heard good things about these guys:

For live rock I'd suggest http://www.marcorocks.com/

The prices are very good, and you could seed it from a few small pieces of LR from a local LFS.

I hope this helps, good luck!

This is a few of the ones i have been looking at, i am not sure about 100gpd i dont think i will lose that much water, its only a 55g tank. I am actually looking at the one with a storage tank so i can have good drinking water. or i will just get a big water cooler and pipe some into there. I hate clarksville water :P also thank you for the link of the rock supplier. going to put in an order for 25lbs to start and now i need to find some lr for it. since i have some locals responding here is there any other choices for lfs than the 3 i know of, petpalace, L&L, and Petfood store. petsmart does not really count :P oh speaking of petsmart, i just picked up a 50' python from the one in nashville near rivergate mall for 39.99 :D the one up here has a 25' for same price. sorry to ramble on thank you for the help.

You're welcome for the link for the rock. There are 4 pet stores in town, you've listed them all. Pet food center has fish stuff but does not have any LR or livestock for saltwater. L and L has stuff cheap, but cheap isn't necessarily best, I question the quality of their livestock. Pet Palace is a nice place, but you will pay for higher quality. I think their live rock is $8.99/lb, and they have some pretty good looking rock there.

Your only other choices for LFS are Emerald Bay or The Aquatic Critter in Nashville. That's all that I know of, but look in the local suppliers sticky on MTRC and you'll see either their sites or addresses.

Wish I could help on the RO/DI, but I'm still getting mine from Walmart.

buying water from wallyworld? hum, i give them enough of my hard earned money :P i guess maybe find one of the ebay.com units that have a 30 or so day gaurentee and get it use it then send water sample out for testing.

[welcome]
& to the NTRC!

We started with some base rock and seeded with some live rock from different stores. Same with sand, plain aragonite sand but we bought 2 cups of sand from one of the tanks at Pet Palace to get it going.

If you are able, you should try and make the meeting on the 16th and meet some of the locals and steal all their good ideas.
