I am new first post here so hey everyone. I haven't had a SW tank in about 20 years. I have ordered a 14 Bio Cube after seeing one in a LFS. 1st one came in peices side glass had a golf ball size hole in it. Kinda weird because the boxes had no damage I think it came from the factory that way. This kinda has me worried. If it will come broken how is the over all craftmanship? I have a friend that has one. She said one of the hood fans went out after about 3 months She said they shipped her a new one with no hassels so I am at ease a little

So if you have a Bio Cube tell me about it livestock heaters lbs of sand and rock how long did you cycle for ? yada yada

I have a BC14 as well. So far, I had a ballast and fan fail. I got a new ballast from Oceanic without any problems. As for the fans, I actually pulled them out and replaced them with some similar computer fans. Everything is running great. I am currently building a stand and will be setting the tank up this weekend. I got this from a friend a few weeks back. I have about 15 or 20 pounds of sand and a largeFiji rock that will be going in there. As for the cycle, I dont know how long it will take. Just tests the water and do water changes as you would on any other SW tank. It could take several days/weeks or longer.

Welcome Wildcat. I have a Bio Cube 29. It's only been running for approximately 7 weeks now, but I have had no issues with it at all! I have not added anything additional that did not come with the tank except for a heater.

As for cycling, it took about 2-3 weeks for me. All I did was put in my live sand and added water. I used 1lb of sound per gallon of water, so I basically put in 30 lbs of live sand. I started turning my lights on right away and let run for 10-12 hours per day. The live sand was enough to cycle the tank on it's own. I didn't add any fish, fish food, shrimp or rock or anything for the cylcing period. I did however treat the water with Cycle and with dechlorinator. I just followed the doseage on the bottle.

As for it's inhabitans, there's not much in there yet. I got some "guinea pig" fish in the way of 2 Green Chromis. So far they've been doing great. I also have about 10-12 lbs of live rock in there now. I believe it's Fiji rock. I am, however guessing on how many pounds I have. Being a newbie, I made the newbie mistake of not paying attention to how many pounds I actually purchased.

I have had a 29bc running for a year. I wouldn't buy another one. Not because of quality or anything but I have had to do a lot of work to get mine in the shape I want.

1. Runs too hot. add that to it's in my in-laws and they like to keep the room hot. Had to add a chiller. Drill, larget pump, pvc, etc.

2. Filter bites. In first chamber, filter wasn't great. Knocked out false bottom in first chamber. Added rock rubble. Threw away filter pad.

3. Bio balls. Got rid of them. Added skimmer.

I don't think I was getting good gas exchange and, combined with the heat, was having trouble keeping things alive. Added skimmer, chiller and problems disappeared.

Runs nice now though. 4" sandbed, mexican turbos, nassarius vibex, one hermit, pistol shrimp, starfish, fighting conch, pygmy angel, green chromis, yellow watchman goby, gold bar maroon clown, elephant ear.

Hey Davin,

Per #3...Got rid of bio balls and added skimmer. I tried hooking up skimmer in it...a nano skimmer. All I got was a bunch of macro bubbles blowing from the power head everytime I turned the skimmer on.

It sounds as though you didn't have that problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

ya Dave give us the scoop on the skimmer I heard they make one for the BC , is that the one you used how hard was it to install ?
