Hi, my name is Brady and I was referred here by triggerjay, whom I met today when my roommate sold his 75g. I'm interested in being a member and such but I can't make the May 5th frag party as I will be camping and too hammered to drive back . I look forward to meeting all of you and rebuilding my reef tank (lost most everything in the great power outage of 2007). First order of business on the rebuild is getting rid of my Skilter 250 and buying an actual protein skimmer. Let me know if you have an extra laying around.

Thanks,
Brady

Welcome Brady! Glad to see you found your way here. The little visit we had was nice, and I enjoyed seeing your tank. Tell your room mate thanks for giving me the good deal on the tank. It was the last "key" ingredient I needed to host the frag swap. Now we should have PLENTY of room to display all the various frags people will bring. If you ever need any help with your tank, I am more than willing to help. If you need some live sand or anything to help re-seed your tank, let me know. Glad to have you aboard!

Hi Brady,

Glad your here! In May, we are making Reef Food. The Frag Swap is in June, so hopefully you will have something running by then and grab some frags. We are having a live rock workshop in July.

What size tank do you have?

I have a 55g, 75 lbs or so of (probably dead now) live rock, a few nuisance crabs, bristle worms and a starfish that are all culprits in a few fish vanishings, loads of macro algae and unfortunately loads of cyano, a lawnmower blenny that survived the power outage, Skilter 250, overflow box, 4x65w lights, 2 sweeping powerheads, heater, and homemade (though poorly made) 20g refugium below.

we all started somewhere. The first thing I would look at would be a quality skimmer. Do you do regular water changes? And if so, are you doing them with RO water? I had cyano problems due to the high phosphates in my tap water. Bought an RO/DI unit, and those problems went away. The Macro is great, but remember to "prune" it back once in a while,.. thats where the export of the bad stuff takes place.

I have a couple of skimmers around. One is a turbo floater and the other is an Aerofoamer 824 (excellent). Let me know if you are interested. BTW Welcome!
