My friend's 11yo son came to my home a few months ago and became fascinated with my reef tank. Of course he knew nothing of what goes into keeping a reef tank and he couldn't understand why I couldn't simply send him home with some frags and water so he could start his own reef tank. He is homeschooled and I told him to do a lot of research about reef tanks and if his parents let him set up a tank later I would do my best to help him. He was so excited about the idea of possibly having a reef tank one day that he immediately began researching. His parents were so impressed with his ambition to learn about reefing that they have turned this into homeschooling educational project by having him learn geographically where natural reefs are, which fish are native to the reefs, he is learning about the chemistry aspects as well. He has been writing reports and giving oral presentations of his research. His parents finally decided to let him begin a 55g tank.
They have a very basic setup but his goal is to have a reef. I will gladly provide him with frags. However, as we all know, this hobby can be expensive, especially in the beginning. So, if any of you have any old equipment you want to donate, it would be greatly appreciated and we could pay shipping.
